you wouldn't to have the 400 mains to run that kit. All you would need is the extra block clearance for the stroker crank. When you take a crank out of an actual 400 sbc is when you need to have the mains bored. Every kit I have ever seen use 350 mains on a 3.75 stroker crank. Someone please correct me if i'm wrong..

also.. chevy high performance did a back to back comparison on a 350 v/s 383 with the the same parts. The 383 made like 41 more hp and like 70 ft lb of torque. Not exact because I don't have the mag in front of me but thats a close guess.

normal machine work for a rebuild as well as extra clearance in the bottom of the block to clear the 1/4 inch of stroke. You can do a google search and find pictures and instructions on where the block needs altered

CHP compared a 355 against 383 SBC. I agree with a previous poster that to go with an internal balanced kit.

ok..now one other option. this top end kit. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/EDL-2098/

it says 410 hp but with all my other mods (full exhaust, hei dist, wires, headers, carb, bored, etc.) will it make more than 410hp?? i was looking for about 450 hp.
