Default Need help with a vortec 350

I figured this was the best place for this, I have a 96 vortec with a 350 and i just replaced the head gaskets in it. I am in the process of putting it back together and i need help finding #1 tdc so i can set the valves. I marked the dist. and i have it marked on #3. How can i make sure when its on #1 tdc? Theres a groove in the balancer but I have no idea if that is for #1 and where its supposed to be when its at tdc. ANY help would be more than appreciated

That groove could be for #1 or #6 as they are on the opposite sides of the firing order. Pull the #1 piston up to top dead center (line up the mark) and see which cylinder the valves are closed on. If it is #6, then rotate the crank 360 and you will be on #1.
