modding a tbi truck lot of questions
my kid brother wants to put a cam, intake, heads, carb on his tbi 91 chevy 1500. i just needed to know a couple things?
what size cam can i run with stock gm 190 casting heads(in the 190's dont remember exactly), edelbrock torquer intake, and a holly 650cfm carb.
im an ls1 guy and never really had to deal with a sbc. worked on alot of them never modded them
i know i will have to regulate fuel down and change fuel line. i just need to know the limits on cam size with out ptv issues? i was thinking about the edelbrock cam that matches the intake but dont know what to excpect?
thanks for the help in advance

Going with a carb opens up the selection of cams you can go with. TBI is very limited to what you can use. The most important thing is you will need to find out what spring to put on the head. You will need to know retainer-to-valve stem seal clearance. The stock pressure of the TBI pump is somewhere around 15psi so there won't be much to regulate.

The stock TBI heads hold back anything above 5000 RPM, so a small cam will do ok and allow revs to 5500, otherwise, the heads are a serious limitation to the engine. TBI is junk, the only cam that works with them is a LT1 cam, since it is slightly larger than stock, it can hanlde it.

Actually there was a cam that Crane used to make called the Compucam 2032. It changed to the powermax 2032 before they shut down and it measured 214/220 452/465 and it worked with TBI. We had it in my cousin's 92 TBI 5 speed car. The cam is actually for TPI cars. It ran without issue.

alright so we have the new edelbrock performer rpm cam in the performer edelbrock intake, holly 600cfm carb and a delco hei distributor. now my question is what do i have to do to power the distributor. it is a two wire vacumm advance dist. i know that one is power and one is ground. Is it a pulsing power or just 12v with the turn of the ignition key? thanks for the help.
