Hello everyone -
Been a long time since I worked on a classic chevy (unfortunately). This past year I put a new starter in my 70 mach 1, and was able to go with the starter off a 5.0 mustang to save a lot of weight and add some starting power.
Is there something similar for classic chevy's?
I am helping a buddy on his car, specs related to starter:
67 Chevelle
396
700r4 trans
168 tooth flywheel
Thanks.

That jegs brand (3rd link) is basically a rebranded CVR starter. Great, very powerful starters. Same thing goes for the summit brand starters.
If you want something you can get at the parts store a starter for an 03 s-10 v6 will do as well. Small and very light weight. Had one on my 10.8:1 383 on my Nova untilled it chucked a rod right into it.
worked very well tho.

Call Barnett performance in Georgia and get a Hitachi. I have had powermasters, CVR, TCI, and Tilton and the Hitachi is by far the longest lasting starter I have owned. I have one on all my cars now and the price is right there with all those from JEGS. Those late model starters like on the vortec 350's and S10 worked ok for a little while but they have plastic gears in them that will let you down at the worst possible time. Another thing Barnet stocks the parts to fix the Hitachis' if you do break something. I recently had to replace the bendix on my oldest starter because I adjust the valves with it on my 540bbc 13.2:1 compression with 325 seat spring pressure. The starter was 3 years old when that happened. I hope this helps.
