run a ground from the battery to the engine also. And you need at least a 1/0 cable from the battery to the soleniod. Don't use a welding cable, use dedicated battery cable.

my friend had the same problem. his piston to cylinderwall clearence was too tight. when the engine heated up the piston would expand and cause a seizing symptom. when the engine cooled down it would start fine.

I would try this first. I would also put a amp draw meter on the power cable close to the starter and see how many amps its pulling.

Sounds like a classic case of 'heat soak' in the starter solenoid. Try putting a solenoid shield on it and see if it cures it.

also check your initial timing. too much with stock starter and it will cause the same issues. if the engine loves a lot of timing then you need a mini torque. and maybe a heat shield.

Are you running vacuum advance on your distributor?

You should have about 15-20* initial timing and 32-38* at full advance. Once the engine gets hot the cranking compression is overcoming the ability of the starter to turn over the engine.

I am also thinking you might have too hot of a spark plug in the engine if it heats up that quick. Crappy gas of now days makes performance engines overheat real easy.

How hot is the water temp on the gauge when you shut the car off?
