ok Im about to build a 10 sec C3 and I cant decide on building the engine or order a complete engine I was thinking of Scott Shafiroff 434ci 735hp complete engine it costs 11,500$ less carb and ignition but then I was thinking of ordering a 427ci short block and AFR 220cc fully CNC'd and custom roller cam the transmission is TH400 the converter will be decided later and the rear end is 8.5" 10 bolt GM and 3.73 any suggestions ? I know some guys achieved 10s with 383s but if I went with Scott 434ci routine whats the estimated E.T?

Shouldn't take nearly that power to run in the 10's. I think you would be money ahead to build a 550HP (maybe $6000?) engine and invest in a real good converter and suspension to hook all of the power. In a 3300lb car (a guess) you will be in the 10's.

If you're not in the 9s with 735hp, you're doing it wrong.
A $11,500 motor is not necessary to runs 10s...there are people all over this site with "cam only" Camaros running 10.99s or better.
Also you will need a better rearend than that especially with 735hp.
With that motor you should be in the 9.50-9.75 range with proper drivetrain/weight/suspension/gearing.

Thats B.S. imo. The Smashing Orange Pumpkin (a turbo GN) used to run bottom 8's with a factory 8.5 housing with a spool axles and Factory 3.42 gears.
My hydraulic roller cam 406 runs high tens at 3380lbs with a 700r4 trans and 3400 converter and gets as good of gas mileage as my jeep and it cost me between 5 and 6 thousand to build.

I just bought a roller C4 '91 and its lighter than the C3 by 320 pounds I will tear it apart and sell the good stuff from interior to cover up the cost of the rear end
Oldsmobility85 the drag racers in my country they still use the 8.5" with spools and 30 spline shafts with no problems at all and they are in single digits already I just dont like a ford rear end in chevy method just keep it GM

I felt the same way for years about the ford rears in gm cars but ive here lately decided to build a 9" for my firebird. There not cheaper but more abundant and easy to find parts for. I have a GN 8.5 in my cutlass that will be staying there hopefully forever. Lol.

I'm gonna have to suggest a ls swap for this one. A 6.0 iron block based build. With the ignition controller. The rest of the drivetrain and parts can still be used with ls. Plus the ls has the advantages of the cnp ignition and the controller has many features built in. Build a high scr 408 with afr heads aggressive hydraulic roller cam and super Vic intake. That's easily 625+ bhp engine

That is true but if you are gonna start from scratch it really doesn't cost any extra to build a big inch motor. After I bought my rotating assembly for my406 I nearly kicked myself in the *** when I realized I could have just as easily bought a 421" assembly for the same price.
