i can't see your pics at the moment,
but it sounds like the solenoid on the starter is not working. It's a plunger which pushes the starter pinion out to engage the flywheel.
it's part 17 that moves part 18, when that solenoid goes bad you generally can't replace just that, you have to get a new starter. Using wd40 won't do anything.
All you ever need to do on the starter is get the rust and buildup out of the endcap (#4) and clean the armature if it has crud built up on the commutator, and grease the planetary gears which are almost always dry (#7)
