Carb Help!
Here is what "I" am looking for in a carb:
-Fairly Reliable
-Will bolt on and run out of the box w/o much adjustment
I know I'll have to buy a new intake as well, so I'm prepared to throw down some cash. I just don't know what to buy!!! Help
I have one Vette customer that I put one of my old Busch 390 carbs on his car and it gets 21mpg and makes over 500rwhp. 406" SBC. People alway run way to big of a carb on engines because they really don't understand that increasing the air velocity increases the size of the carb that the engine is seeing...how else did the old Busch engine make 725HP at 9:1CR and 358".
The carb needs to be calibrated to the fuel you will be running as the fuel density of every pump gas differs greatly, yea you can run whatever you want but Chevron is by far the most consistent and makes the most power of any pump gas I have tested to date. Sure you can swap but if you go to Quick-Trip it can kill 20-30hp that quick on a 400RWHP car, I know because I did the testing with my 94 Z-28.
What carb does it have on it? You might just have a bad one. If you want it tested or want another one custom built for your application let me know. You also have to understand that carburetors operate of vacuum and that is why some work better than others. No O2 sensors or mass air flow to adjust so you have to get them dialed in pretty close to start with.
Just hit me back on my e-mail if you have any additional???
Buying a store bought carburetor is a waste of time and money unless you cut your own hair with a flow-bee and are satisfied with it...
performance- Holley dp all the way and high rise single plane.
