Default Main bearing help?

i was freshening up an engine and adding a new cam for a friend, and ran into a problem. I was checking the main bearing clearance, and on the number 5 journal the measurement i got was .003. I'm trying to get in between .0020 and .0025. The crank was cut .010 in the past because it couldn't be polished. So right now i have .010 clevite bearings. What size do i need to get the desired measurement? part number would be great also. this is on a 97 vortec 350. Thanks

If that's on the thust bearing, that's perfect. run it. .003 is good on the mains.

Absolute truth! My 406 runs nearly .003" on the first four mains and is .004" on the thrust bearing (5th main). That is with a 2.650 main journal. Larger diameter main journals need more clearance for swelling due to temp. Thats besides the point. The thrust bearing needs more clearance to supply ample oil to the thrust area itself. Hope that helps.
