Default New Engine build

4 bolt main 350 bored .030 new crank (cast scat) forged rods probe pistons 10.5:1 comp. vortec heads worked. .555 solid roller lunati cam single plane will have pics up as soon as it comes back from machine shop any thoughts on power? hope to have on the dyno by june

What carb? I'm thinking 425hp to the crank...

The right solid roller should let that combo rev up to 6800 or so and if you put a nice single plain on it it should make 450 or so to the crank. Even 383's dont make much more than that with ported factory casting vortecs. There pretty well max'd out at around 475hp.

Like olds said most ported vortec 355's with your compression and a nicely matched cam make around 440-450hp.

cam i have is a lunati 50157 specs out at 290* .555 lift cant remember at .050 should make power to 6800 with a decent over rev for shifts hope to spray some at it when all is said and done machine shop is way backed up darn circle track guys want their **** done now should have started this project 2 months ago

Oh and are the bow tie large port vortecs any good? i have a line on a set for what seems like a decent price as for carb probably a pro systems 750

They have two different sets of large port vortecs. They both are better than the stock castings. I always smooth my heads no matter the casting.

Yeah the gm large ports have been known to make almost 600hp with a nasty valvetrain setup. Though if your gonna shell out the cash the Edelbrock etec 210 heads are a better choice as far as weight savings and cooling goes.
But a good bit more expensive by a few hundred bucks.
Popular hotroding did a test on the etec 200's out of the box with a super victor and 850 carb on a 421" sbc and made 540+ hp at around 5800rpm with a baby performer rpm hyd camshaft.

I chose to go with the profiler 210's hand prepped and assembled from Dr. J's Performance and it was a great move.

My pump gas 11to1 406 screams to 7000 like an animal with a 640 lift hyd roller cam.

what is the cost on the profiler heads? i have read some on them .... i guess i probably will use my vortecs but would like to upgrade in the future

They were 1340 shipped. They are super nice and very high quality. And they get down. You can have them for cheaper but he does an amazing job on the bowl blends and gasket matching and was well worth the extra few bucks and I didnt have to worry wuth anything but the intake manifold.

Well just talked to machine shop and my heads need all new valves they had been sitting a while and that along with springs for my solid cam is gonna put my price about 750 into the heads so much for my free vortec score maybe i should just buy something that will flow better

Whats wrong with the valves? You dont want to run a sollid roller on stock valves really anyhow. In stock assembled form vortec heads can go for 150 bucks pretty easily on craigslist. You should sell them and keep saving.

the vavles arent stock they are stainless 2.02 1.60 but they are all screwed up all of them on one head are burnt beyond repair and the rest are pretty beat on the stems the bowls are blended and some work done on the exhaust to get flow up the vavles were unshrouded in the chamber the guids were smoothed but all the exhaust seats are shot so i dont know what i should do
