Default 454 heads

I am looking to buy heads for a 454 I am rebuilding to go in a 70 chevelle. I am not super familiar with 454s so I am looking for some one to recommended a good set of heads.

Yes were are going to put them on a street car. We are looking to make about 500-550 flywheel HP. Not sure how hard that's gonna be like I said earlier this is my first time building a big block.

You need to stay with oval port heads over rectangle. We have these on my wifes 489 (albiet, they are a little small for that big of an engine), should work fine on a 454. Most aftermarket heads will work great. Only a few H.P. difference, something that you will probably never notice. Call Bullet cams and tell them what you are doing and they will build you a great cam. Make sure the pistons have the right dome size so you don't go overboard on compression. And run at least a 850 cfm carb.

I agree use a oval port head for a street car. It does not take much to get 500+HP with the right cam. You will make more trq than HP which is what makes a street car fun IMO.

550 is easily doable with a set of 781 casting heads such are factory castings and still very readily available and cheap. Just make sure the springs are set up correctly on a used set because big blocks love to drop valves if spiring pressures aren't good.
