a guy i know has a C3 with a grenaded 350. is there anything special about the corvette's engine vs the rest of the SBC's from the late 70's? i'm basically making sure he doesnt buy the wrong 350 to replace it.

Short blocks should be the same. Heads too probably. In those years, GM was more concerned about emissions and gas mileage to care much about performance differences.

Don't remember if they still had the L-82 in 79,but it was more high performance than the standard 350

Check casting numbers and do a search. You'll get all the info on crank style, block, heads, etc...if you pull a motor from another vette, camaro, or even monte/police caprice you should get RELATIVELY the same motor but not exactly similar. Remember that they were all rated differently for HP but may actually be the same motor with less of a cam, or worse manifolds as the only difference. I mean how would you feel if your 350 vette had the same rated power as an impala? hope this helped
