Default 5.3 vortec head bolt problem PLEASE HELP

So I'm in the process of installing the heads on my 05 silverado but Ive run into a problem. I torqued it exactly as specified in the manual which was something like 22ft lbs then 90degrees then another 90 but they don't feel tight enough. I didn't have to put any elbow grease into it. Someone please help. =(

I cleaned them out with a air nozzle I'm going to pull one tomorrow and check the threads I think that might be the case. Ive heard of people getting false readings with a little bit of crud in them. I was just thinking it was weird that they all are doing the same thing.

I was thinking it might be that the torque wrench I used wasn't calibrated correctly and that I started lower then the 22ft lbs.

I use the Chinese head studs. Then it's no problem.

if you pull bolt you have to replace bolt.. factory style bolts are one time use.

^^ Just what I was going to say. Anytime you have a torque spec that is measured in degrees of rotation, you're dealing with a single use bolt that goes in the trash the next time it gets removed. The process is called torque to yield, and depends on bolt stretch to attain the required clamping force.

The thing is I don't believe they have stretched. They haven't been pulled down tight enough yet. I can break them loose with a one arm medium pull on the breaker bar lol.

I put a torque wrench on them with 110ft lbs just to see where they happen to be at and they weren't even at 110ft lbs.
