Default What carb for my setup?

Sbc 305
.40 over
Flat top pistons
Eagle rods
280h cam
Double roller timing chain
305 h.0 heads, 3 angle valve job, roller tip rockers,
Performer rpm intake. This motor is going into a s10, going to be using it mostly on the street but on the strip to. I was thinking about using the quick fuel 650 hr series carb, is that to small or to big?

You really need headers badly. A standard 650 Holley is plenty.

Okay, I forgot to list the headers, I've got longtube pacesetters. So would the quick fuel be plenty?

Anything 650ish is plenty. I wouldn't go any bigger though. I would also avoid mechanical secondaries like the plague on a street vehicle...nothing to be gained, a lot to lose. Also, there is a REAL good chance you're going to be seriously over cammed with that mouse motor.

So you think I have to big of a cam in it? Everyone else has told me that it's a good cam for a 305

Depends on how well your heads flow. Are they cnc ported? Do the flow numbers flow well with the cam? Ask Martin a lot of people do lol

"Everyone else" has caused more people to be unhappy with their cars performance after a cam swap or build than probably any other single factor. Noobs ALWAYS have a tendency to both over cam, and over carburate. I fell into this trap too, 40 years ago. The cam you're using would work well on a 305 with some really well ported heads, and if you spin the **** out of it. A stock bottom end isn't going to support it at the rpm you'll need to run it at...at least not for long.

My thought is you'd be well served with a much milder cam.

Id go with a 600cfm carb. The cam is on the large side, much more suitable for a 350. Its bigger than what I put in my 325Hp 350CI builds. With that duration and LSA vacuum may be an issue if you are running power brakes.

Yeah some people have told me it would run very well with that cam and others no.. Guess I'll just find out. I plan on using a vaccum canister.
