Default 5.7 from 2000 Escalade

If one were wanting to do an old style small block mild street build (350ish HP) would the above be a good engine to start with?

Would this have the same heads as the late 90's truck engines that are supposed to be very good small block heads?

Should be a roller valve train also I'm thinking.

Should be the vortec heads and will be a roller motor. Can look at the heads, they will have a saw tooth casting in the front.

There was 2 different true Vortec castings on 96-2000 trucks/suv equipped with the 5.7 vortec engine. I believe in 99 was when the LS motor started to replace it. There is a 062 casting head which has the "saw tooth" pattern on the ends of the castings, the other is a 906 casting which has a single hump instead.

Be mindful of the stock press in rocker studs. If not pinning or replacing with screw in studs stay under .480" lift on your cam selection. You can go bigger with some modification to the stock castings.
