Default Car Brains Needed: What engine is this?

Hey guys, I have an uncle who has this engine, and he doesnt know what car it came out of. He is really interested on the specs of this engine and maybe a possible list of cars that it could have been in.

Chevy Big Block

It is a 396 Cubic Inch
375 Horsepower?
??

Some numbers on the engine are:

TII06IVRGY
and
127336

I could possibly get some pictures of it for you guys. If anyone knows any information please let me know. The "I"s in the engine number could either be 1's or I's it is very hard to make them out.

Thanks a lot!!!

in the transportation section at any Barnes & Noble etc. look for a book called: Chevy Parts Interchange. It contains engine casting numbers etc. and I believe a listing of the vehicles that contain those numbers but don't quote me on that...

A 396 engine could have come in:
Camaro, Chevelle, Nova, Monte Carlo, Impala, Corvette, etc....

For those needing help with casting numbers on blocks, find the engine block casting # on the lefthand (driver side) rear area. They usually start with a 3 and are a 6 to 8 digit number. I do research for a classic car parts company so I might be able to help out with questions like this!

a 396 would have, notice I didn't say 375 hp option.

I do know the 396 big block 375 hp option did come in:
Camaro 1967-70 models
Chevelle 1965 (Z-16 models only) to 1970 models
Nova 1968-70 models

also check for the engine code, usually found on the block pad located just forward of the right hand cylinder head. That will tell exactly what model it was from and hp rating. Problem is if the block was ever surfaced, it will probably not be there. If it still has a original rotating assembly and/or cylinder heads, we can decode those #s as well to eliminate duplicates.

Well I'm sorry to tell you but without the heads, it just a bottom end. The heads made the motors back then. You might be lucky and have one with a steel crank. I have the books at work. I'll bring them home, (don't use them up there now anyway) and provide what I can.
