How's about a ground pounding 472?

http://shafiroff.com/472_675_engine.asp

Put a 350 shot of gas on the ultrastreet SS version and volia.... you've got yourself a driveable 1000 hp small block...

383, 427, 454, of course some require the use an aftermarket block. I personally like the 383

The 540 I had in my silver camaro was one bad focker, it was street driven and as you see in my sig was fast at the track. Never burned a drop of oil. I give shaf a thumbs up...

shafiroff is hit or miss some motors are great some last 15 passes. his motors aren't a custom motor there built assembly line style. they take what ever block your getting attatch the work order to it and send it down the line to each different work station. to like one guy that intalls cranks all day then one guy that does cams so it touches like 15 peoples hands before it's done. also i've found that alot of motors people upgrade parts but when they get it it has the standard parts in it.

i can't wait to take my 427sbc for a cruise. the setup is a 4.120 bore, 4.00 stroke, and 6.125 rods. 434 might be the same except for a bigger bore like maybe, just guessing, 4.150 or 4.180?

it goes like this. 383,396,400,406,415,421,427,434,454,460,468, and 472. You can build many diff big cube small blocks. Some have advantages that others dont, and osme have disadvantages. my personal fav is the 406,421,427, and 434. reason for this is availabilty of parts, prices, and longevity........

68maro is right.
One of my customers just got screwed by schafiroff. He bought there 582 with all options for 17,000 and it didn't even make a pass.
While we were setting the timing and adjusting the idle, the engine locked up!! We took it back up to Schafiroff, and they will not stand behind it. It is obvious that its an internal problem, so they offered to rebuild it for $4500.00. Can you beleive that!! We went back up and took the motor to one of his competitors. After they saw the crank, they beleive schafiroff used the wrong crank, because it looks like the balance was off. Schafiroff does not balance there own assembly's, they order them pre balanced. If they used the wrong crank, it would send everything out of whack!! I have a shop building cars and fully understand that there is no warranty in racing. However if a rear end brakes that I build, I would fix it for parts only. If one of my welds ever broke, I would fix it for no charge. Thats just honest business. All my customer wanted was for them to repair it for parts cost alone, even though its obvious they are responsible for the whole cost. The engine was run for no more than 45 minutes, and it showed good oil pressure the whole time.
Please do yourself a favor, and find another builder, unless you can afford to pay for there mistakes.

bill mitchell is good and he stands behind his stuff. and you can get a small block up to 500 cubic inches now. you can buy a turnkey 950hp all aluminum 500" motor from awesome engines.

A 421 is what I run, while not unhappy, I believe for ultimate power from a big inch sbc, you'll need to go at least with a set of RR heads.

The combo is a 3.875 crank and a 4.155 bore. Actually 420.6 cu.in.

I'm running mid 10s n/a, but thought I might muster a hi 9, I think with big cubes you need big airflow, and the standard port 23* just won't do it.

If I were limited to a standard 23 head, I would build smaller, say a 383 or 406.

Now, for huge tire shredding torque #s, then go big, just know your ultimate HP #s will be limited.
