Talking New Project

I picked up a 94/98 Camaro this week. It's a 94 with a 98 front clip and Ultra Z hood on it. It was a V6 car, but I'm sticking a conventional SBC 385 and TH350 in it. It will be a drag car mainly, but it will se some street use. I built the 385 a few weeks ago when I found out I was getting the car. It's a 4-bolt bolt with an Eagle crank, stock type rods withe ARP bolts and bushed small end, Keith Black pistons (11.5:1), Crower Cam .547/.574 lift 262/274 @.050 on 112LS, Pete Jackson gear drive, roller rocker arms, worked ZZ4 heads, Edelbrock Victor 4500 intake and a dominator carb. Oh yeah, it has an NOS Big Shot plate on it also. Holley Strip Annihator Ignition with MSD multi-step retard. I'm building the trans this week it's fairly simple a TH350 with all Red Eagle clutch plates and Kolene steels, heat treated sprag and a Cheetah manual valve body and a TCI 3600 conv. I'm hoping to set the engine in the car today to fabricate the front engine plate and then I can start bulding the headers next week, but with my work schedule that'll be tuff. I found a 9" that's 2" shorter per side so that I can use standard offset wheels on, but I'll have to do that in a few weeks. I have a 6-point roll bar and frame connectors that'll go on in a couple of weeks. for rear shocks I got the Comp. Eng. adjustable drag shocks and I should be getting the Dick Miller torque arm in a couple of weeks. I also picked-up white face gauges on eBay last week. As I start making so progress on it I'll post pics. I was hoping to have it ready the The Year One Experience, but I don't think I can make it now. The first step is to finish removing everything and cleaning it, it belonged to a girl so it needs some work. The somewhere along the way I have to re-paint the front clip to match the car and the hatch needs to be touched up also, the clear is flaking on the hatch.

Because I'm CHEAP! I already have a pair of 1 3/4" headers from a past project and it'll be cheaper to buy a few bends then a complete set of LT1 headers. I build cars at Year One, and one of the things I do is build headers, but that's a good question. I was going to buy a set of LT1 headers when I first started this project, but when I started looking at the headers I already had I noticed that I'll only have to change a couple of the tubes to make them work.

sounds like a good start to your project. you really work for Year One? that's fantastic. must be nice to work in an environment like that. if you get the chance to post some pics, i for one would love to see how it comes along.

Are the forth gen cars known for leaking anywhere? The car had a bunch of water in it. It could be from when it was being brought here, I can't remember if the window was down when he brought it, it was raining like heck that night.

If the car has t-tops and there's no motor or trans in it in tends to leak a bit more too because of the body being "unloaded"

I'm going to run water over the windows and hatch tonight and sit inside to see if it leaks.
WhtLT1-Fortunately it's a hard top car, but I didn't realize that the t-top cars would do that.

Well, this weekend I finished removing the factory wire harnesses and a/c box. After that I mocked up the front engine plate and cut the cowl to clear the dominator. All in all not a bad weekend.

It's always good to see a project making progress. You won't believe how easily the headers will go in with that heater box out. When we dropped my motor into the car I think it took us about five minutes to get the headers in after getting the motor in there.
