396 stroker small block
I want to build my 350 into a 396 stroker. I was told H beam rods won't clear and I would have to grind into the water jacket. I could use I beam billet rods but they are $800. Has anyone successful made a 396 stroker with H beam rods?

I have one over here with a 4.03" bore and 3.875" stroke. Eagle crank and 6" H-Beam rods. I don't believe any jackets were hit when it was notched. The rod bolts(1 anyways) did contact the camshaft, which required a swap to a smaller base circle cam.

the water jacket shouldn't be a problem but you will need to do alot of clearancing in the oil pan area, especially with a 3.875 or 4 "stroke and h beams.small base circle cam will probably be required also.some blocks are different than others so you never know until you check.

i think american speed where doing an all stroke 401 ci from a 350 block. i know the block did have clearing mods done, but thats all i remember. have a look on the American speed site or look at car craft's web site (tech articles) for more info.
thanks Chris.
