Need some pirice on engine?
Need some pirice on engine? I'm starting to save some money right now (I probable won't have the money till next year or so) and wondering How much does a 427 goes for? I'm just talking about the block and forge internal. And also I have one more question. What is the different from short block and long block? I'm guessing the long block is longer/bigger? Sorry for asking some stupid question. I'm still learning.

short block= block, crank, pistons, etc...some times cam
long block= block, heads, intake...normaly everything but the exhaust manny and carburator on a carb car

thanks for your info. now all i need is a ball park price. I got a feeling that this a going to cost an arm and a leg but i'm just wondering. More realistic plane will be going with 402 or 408.

I'm assuming you're looking for pricing on a 427 LS1/LS6 engine?? If so you might want to check out the LS-based forums.
If you're looking to go old school 427 big block chevy, IMHO start with a 454 (cheaper and easier to find) and stroke that to a 496 or higher.

what is funny is that a bone stock ls1 cost $6000! when you can get a 454 with 425 hp and over 500lb of torque for $1100 less lol.
