Cutting Cowl
Hi fellows.I'm getting ready to install a bbc in my 95Z.I have everything ready but have not cut the cowl yet.My question is this,on the underside of the cowl (bottom portion) the metal goes back to the firewall, did any of you guys cut back to that point or did you simply cut it even with the top and bend the bottom up? Sorry if this seems like a stupid question but i'd rather know before I cut it. BTW I'm going to need all the room I can get It's a 572 w/ 1250 dominator thats going in it. Thanks in advance.

The limiting factor is going to be the windshield.....you'll have to cut it back all the way to the edge of the glass. I haven't done it personally, but I have seen several 4th gens up close with BBC's and dominators......it BARELY fits. Guess it also depends on how you setup your motor plate somewhat too. Most I've seen are just cut with a swazall or something right thru both layers of sheet metal. Good luck.

Thanks for the info. I currently have a BMR k-member w/the lt1 mounts in the car,but I have bought the mounts for sbc/bbc from them to mod the k-member. Do you think these will work or would I be better off doing a motor plate for clearance issues? BTW I thought it was very nice of them to sell me the parts for the mod without having to buy a new k-member.

Not hardly There is nothing left to bolt em to.I really did'nt want to have to cut it like that but it's a drag only car and I also have a stock 02 Z28 that I wouldn't dare do this to But I'm ready to go to the next level with the 95 so I'm just gonna go all out! Heres a pic of my other baby

No. It's not really that stable. I plan to put in speedglass.Just the windshield for now and then later the hatch also. Currently you can push on the windshield in the middle at the bottom and see it move,i'm not taking any chances with that.I have seen some that are cut still w/stock glass but i'd feel safer going with lexan.

The mounts for sbc/bbc will not work on that LT1 K-member. BMR should know that. What you will need the the SBC K-member, It has provisions for the added SBC motor mounts. But you will not need any of this as you are going to a motor plate.

Like he said your not gonna need the aftermarket K member with the motor plate but You might as well spend the money and get one anyway for the simple fact of installing headers, from most of the guys on here that have done the swap the header fit is tight enough as it is with an aftermarket Kmember and would prolly me a total nightmare with stock one if possible at all. Just something else to think about.
