Thanks,

86 Camaro. It ran 9.30's last year with a n/a 509 motor. Hoping to go high 8's with this motor, but I'm thinking it'll come up a little short. Over 3 tenths is probably to much to hope for. My next motor will be procharged or turbo and more streetable.

Thanks, they are discontinued K&N's. I've had them for about 5 years, this the first time I've used them. Not sure why K&N stopped making them, they seem to fit nice and seal up, I'll see if they stay that way. The billet breathers are Jeg's brand and the oil filler is from Quick Fuel.

They're Ed Quay headers, he specializes in 82-92 Super Stock Camaro stuff. http://www.edquay.com/ They are 2-1/8 stepped to 2-1/4, nice thick flanges. I've had them for years, just got them Jet Hot coated though.

i would think the 540 would want a bigger header than that for best performance and just out of curiosity how much does the car weigh.

The car weighs 3280 with me in it. My 509 motor had small ported 310 Pro1's (flow 378cfm @ .700 lift). It made good power to 7,400 and ran better than other people's similar motors with much bigger heads.

The 540's heads are fairly small. They're old Dart 320's, but flow over 410 cfm. I've had the heads for 6 years. If I was buying now, I'd buy something different. When in doubt I've always went with smaller heads and it has always worked pretty well. I don't like spinning a motor to 8,000.

i think you think he said head, but he said a bigger header??? maybe i'm wrong, but you never mentioned anything about the headers after replying with his quote. i for one think that those are some good size primaries there, but i'm used to small blocks. lol.

Thanks for pointing that out. I'm an idiot I read head instead of header not even thinking how the hell does he know what heads are on it. I guess I've heard my heads are to small so many times I was thinking of that.

I've had the headers ever since I had my 461 motor in it, so spending a grand or more on new headers was just not a priority. They are not really that small for a 540 though. I had these crappy hooker 1-7/8" with 3" collectors on my 461 and put these on and it didn't run much better, lost a little 60ft and picked up a little mph.

I have a set of Pro 1 345 heads if you are interested. New, never bolted on. I need some 310's or so for my 496.

Thanks, but I'm going to keep my 310's for another motor.
