what size carb??
i have the motor in my boat now
whats done to it:
full rebuild with clevite bearings
rv/marine camshaft
HEI distributor w/ vacuum advance
center bolt valve cover heads (are these vortec heads?)
full marine gasket set
brass freeze plugs
stock intake manifold from the old 305 "modded" for the fuelie heads
now the motor wont get above 4000rpms. thats with 10 people in the boat or just me by myself. it gets up to 4K almost instantly after you nail the throttle. this leads me to believe im running out of fuel. my cam is good to around 5700 or so.
i have the stock marine quadrajet taken off the 85 305 motor that came in my boat.
im wondering what size carb i should try. someone gave me a 650 marine carb (holley or edelbrock not sure which one) that has a bad accelerator pump. i havent gotten around to trying it yet though
also, would i see much of a power increase with an aftermarket intake manifold as opposed to the stock one, that is with the right sized carb
also, can anyone estimate a ballaprk figure for how much HP this engine should be making? im not the most knowledgeable on chevys as im a ford guy

thanks,
Russell
The holley 750cfm Double pumper is good to I want to say 6000-6500....
So that should be plenty
As for the intake manifold..
The weiand xcelator is a great manifold and it complements the holley 750 very nicely!!
center bolt valve cover heads (are these vortec heads?)
"stock intake manifold from the old 305 "modded" for the fuelie heads"
did the manifold from the 305 fit onto it?? I dunno if you're planning on putting it on, or if you've done so already.
How many bolt holes do your heads have? They made centerbolt valve cover's that weren't vortec heads (if I'm thinking correctly - lil intoxicated, but still typing pretty good
) let me know, and I'll let you know
