Default Need help asap--Torque converter problem

67 camaro--- We recently installed a new 350 engine along with a new 3500 torque converter. As we were bolting the trans up to the engine. We noticed that we could not spin the torque converter. When we move the flywheel the torque converter seems to move with it. But other then that you cannot move it because of how tight it is. Does anyone know what the problem might be. When we installed the new convertor we just put it on. We did not bother to spin the converter - Could that might be the cause?? Any way around this to avoid dropping the trans?

yes, you need to spin the convertor around until it slides into the transmission futher. Don't try to run it like that without it being in the tranny all the way.

If I remember right there is a slot on the end of the convertor that looks like this |_| and it has to fit over the boss in the tranny. Does that make sense?

the past converters that i've done have slid in twice. Spin it and it will slide it once, and then continue and it should slide in again. Then that's when you have it. Also, when you have the tranny bolted to the motor, you should have about half an inch to an inch of play back and forth with the converter. If you do, it's in right. That's what I've seen in my previous installs.

Yeah I only slid it into place once. I will give it another spin - Hopefully it works. Thanks again - I will let you know how it comes along. I can get pictures of the converter. Maybee by the pictures you can tell if it does need to be pushed in more- Thanks buddy - Mike
