Good Setup for budget??? Please Read!!
I am looking at getting a pretty cheap 350 built over the winter. Right now, I have
95 1/2 ton truck 2 bolt block
3.48" Eagle Cast Crank
5.7 Eagle Rods w/ ARP Cap Screws
CS X4 254H-11 Cam (.447 int .462ex) 254 int./262 exh. adv duration
981-16 Valve Springs
What kind of heads/intake/carb would help this thing out?
Would Vortec heads be a good cheap head for this combo?
Any help would be great!!!

Sorry, I accidentally posted this on my bro's name. Im actually pondering building this engine over the winter.
One more thing, Id be using flat-top pistons w/ a 9.4 to 1 CR w/ 64 CC heads. Also, this will be most likely mated to a TH350 w/ a shift kit and up to my 3.23 Limited slip axle from an 01 TA. Thanks-

Yeah, put some vortec's, performer rpm, hei ignition, and a 750 dp carb on there and you'd have a nice little motor. Don't forget to finish it off with a set of long tubes. It'd be a cheap, reliable combo.

I had a 355 with flat top pistons, cast # 906 vortec heads, headers, performer vortec intake, 600 holley, summit (same specs as the performer) cam.
Had someone desktop dyno it at over 400 ft pounds from 2000 to 5000 rpm, and a hp peak of 313.
It went in a 1978 3/4 ton 4x4 chevy. Idled smooth, pulled good, decent gas mileage.

I just did a desktop dyno of a potential build. I used the "052" Vortec Flow numbers but I am pretty sure the heads I am after are the 906's.
750 CFM Carb
Dual Plane Manifold
Small Tube Headers and mufflers
10.1 CR
With the mentioned cam and stock Vortec heads, it made
353 FWHP @ 5500 RPM
403 FTLBS @ 4000 RPM
With a single plane intake & -4 degrees cam timing:
388HP @ 5500 RPM
408HP @ 4500 RPM
I know it is just some numbers but Im pretty sure it will be at least 300HP/350TQ.

How big of a nitrous shot did he use? Any 1/4 mile times without nitrous. I am thinking of using the cam b/c I have it laying around. The only money I have invested in this setup is going to be heads, intake, carb and a gasket/bearing set. Im trying to get a set of Vortec's too.
