And we have seen some cast cranks that have been run and taken out for rebuilds and with the soft journals they don't seem to stand up to a 4340 cranks that are nitrided.

From: Gainesville, Florida # of drag strips runs: ?!?!?
It might live. My last Eagle cast crank lived okay for 3 seasons of racing and about 5,000 street miles. It's in how hard you beat on it, and how well the motor is built. Limits are put on things for a reason, but it's not uncommon to see people do things with parts that shouldn't hold up to it.
I guess the question to you is:
Would you feel safe/at ease spraying 600 hp through a part only designed for 100 hp less, when you can upgrade for only a few hundred bucks more?

The Scat 9000 series crankshaft is rated to 650 HP @ 6500 rpm. They are just about as strong as your older GM forged crankshafts. I wouldn't be worried about the crankshaft, I would be more worried about what connecting rods you are going to use.
I have seen alot of these crankshafts run without problems. I sell most of these style cranks to the local circle track guy's for their IMCA modifieds. So far I have not seen any of them break.
