Default SBC intake compatibility

ill be building my sbc within the next couple of weeks and i have a couple questions. first off, would it be possible to fit a TPI or LT1 intake on a stock headed SBC? or could i use any head/intake combo on top of a SBC? say stock LT1 intake and heads? the car as it sits has a carb, but i want an EFI car, but dont wanna spend $3k on a kit when i think i can piece a LT1 or TPI setup together cheaper.

the TPI set up will work on your block with no mods, as long as you use the 85 tpi intake with 85 heads, and the 86 and newer intake with the 86 and new heads as the manifold bolt angles changed. the lt1 set up will work, but takes a lot of modding and needs a remote mount thermostat, machining of the intake and welding on the heads, so IMO its not really worth it unless you're a great fabricator. what are you intensions with this motor, what size and type (roller or non roller, solid, or hydraulic) cam? CR, CID? how much power, whats your spending limit on the top end? more info will be needed to help get you better suggestions

i was banking on a 383 nitrous setup. probably betwenn 9-10:1 compression ratio, not sure about the cam yet, i would like for it to be streetable. and i dont trust my fabricating skills enough to weld on heads or an intake, i could do exhaust but i dont even have much expirience in that. i will probably just end up using the carb or selling it for an ls1 unless i can find a cheap tpi setup.

Why no carb? What's the motor going in? What kind of power goals? Need more details. Going the carbed route would be much cheaper, easier to work on/tune and grossly outperform a tbi setup (with the exception of fuel economy).

well if you're wanting to go 383 cubes and nitrous, your going to need a cam and heads that can flow enough air. Its a lot cheaper to run a carb set up, thats why i ditched my efi. For heads i'd say some Vortec heads with upgraded springs and matching performer RPM intake, for a cam, something like a 230/236 duration (@.050) with .550 lift and 113lsa(efi) and 110-110 lsa for(carbed) should make some pretty good numbers

you can run the lt1 intake one sbc heads with some modifications , but the lt1 heads wont work on a older sbc, there is a website that shows how to but the lt1 intake on hope this helps
