One thing that has happened to me before is that the mechanical advance broke inside the dist. As it starts to spin it will go to full advance on you and give you too much timing too fast. If you disconnect the vacuum advance from the dist. you should have tension (light pressure to check) on the lever that the vacuum advance hooks into.

how much taller is it than say, a performer rpm?

Its the same height...I have the cooling issues taken care of, it was just some air in the system.

Did you get your low rpm stumble fixed?

I put a new coil on because when testing spark it would intermittently cut the spark. The new coil also didn't make a sloshing sound when tipping it upside down. The crane fireball ignition requires a internally resisted coil which is known to go bad quickly because they get so hot in operation. That was probably some of the problem. I think I still have some plug wires acting up so im going to check resistance through them and test spark on each cylinder again.
