Default Cam selection help...

Alright here is the run down of what everything is going to be. its a 63 C-10 pickup with a Gen I 350ci SBC wil all stock internals and a fresh rebuild. it will have the upgraded Vortech heads from SDPC2000 and a Eldlebrock RPM air gap intake. the carb will be you standard Holley 800 cfm.

"Upgraded Vortec head kits - features our high performance Z28 valve springs with light weight LT4 retianers, good for about 0.550" lift with a hydraulic camshaft."

now the truck WILL NEVER see the track, only thing it will be seeing is my garage and car shows and the weekend rides from time to time. I want a semi-lopey idle that is noticeable but not so lopey its a workout to drive the son of a bitch! I have been trying to research as much as possible but I guess my brain just doent do the whole cam thing. I have no idea how to selection the proper duration and lfit and things of this nature. so help please?

For mild builds such as this the 274 extreme by comp cams is almost always a good choice.

If you've got the RPM air-gap intake, the Performer RPM cam isn't a bad cam. I've ran it before and it wasn't bad at all. I had a 2400 stall in my 70 C10 with a 350. It's a 308/318 duration (232/242 @ .050 I think) with .488/.510 lift 1500-6500rpm. I'm going to put the same one in my boat next week.

What kind of Idle are we looking at on those cams mentioned? Rough, or is it smooth? I prefer a very notceable idle but I dont want a all out drag race cam that you have to pedal the motor just to get it to idle.

Yea, that's the one I was talking about. You can tell that there is a cam in the motor, but it's not enough that you have to worry about driving it.

Cool, THink I may hold off on the Carb, Apparently according to my lil bro the truck already has a Eldlebrock already sitting on top of it. so it looks like I will just stick with the heads, intake and cam for now.

Now what is the differance bewteen a hydraulic roller and a flat tappet cam? I know a solid roller cam is pretty much a race car cam and not very streetable. im still just trying to figure out the cam process here.
