L83 Mods Got a great runnin' '84 Z51 Vette. Thought I'd try something different and make the L83 work. Started with a 15.3 baseline.In line w/the mag tests of the day. Did the ram air mod making the underhood ductwork functional and added a K&N filter, got a repeatable 15.2@89, a drop of .1 and1 more mph. Then came the 1.6 to 1 rockers. Best bang for the buck-14.7@92mph. I then ported the crossfire intake and added and MSD 6A and NGK iridiums. The trans was a bit tired so it was rebuilt with TCI componants and set up with auto-x in mind so manual downshifts could be selected at anytime. It was hanging the 2-3 shift which is costing a couple tenths, result at that point-14.4@95. Added 3.75 gears in place of 3.07's, dropped a tenth off the 60' time but the trans is still hanging the 2-3 shift. Best time to date: 14.3@96mph, got to make a small change to the trans -TCI made the diagnosis, and lookin' at breakin' the 13's. All with a Crossfire Vette! I drove the car 3500 miles a couple weeks ago just to race it-25mpg and dead reliable with 127k miles on the clock. sbc's: they just get faster!
