Noisy rockers

Noisy rockers I pulled the valve covers off and was going to attepemt to adjust my lifters, from the incredible information i got from this wonderful site. I tap motor until the exhaust of # 1 is all the way down (open) ok it is time to start, then I notice with-in 5 seconds the lifter bleeds off and the rocker is back to the valve closed position. WTF?
My buddy says this is NOT right, he only knows of a Rhodes lifter that will do that otherwise the lifters are bad?
HELP?!???!

Oh so when the valve spring is depressed it is ok for ithe hydraulic lifter to bleed off in 5 about seconds?
Yes i have the proceedure down but they to still be noisy. I hate to overtighten them.
maybe a little deisel sounding rattle is normal?
