You could get the recommended springs, but I would try something else. I'd call up Comp Cams and ask if some of their Beehive springs would work better. Beehive springs help to eliminate vibrations at high RPMs and, combined with light rockers, can increase overall hp, especially in your highest RPMs.

It's like this. A dyno graph of a normal engine goes down at the highest RPMs (due to vibration of the valve springs). A dyno graph of an engine with a lightened valve train goes up all the way to the redline. That means it pulls more hp up there. This can also help increase the RPM range (move red line up). I'll also help with throttle response since you have less mass (rockers), but not much, so don't expect the world.

Another vote for trying beehives (918's). I'm using them on my vortec headed 383.

Just call up Comp Cams. I'm sure they have what you're looking for.

You'd just need the correct set of spring locators to center the beehives in your stock spring seats. They usually go for $40ish through summit, just find the ones that match the od of your current springs.

Check out this article, they did the same swap:

In order to run beehives on ik200 heads you will need the following.

26918-16 springs
795-16 retainers
4705-16 spring locators
614-16 10* locks +.050" installed height

ditch the factory shim under the 987's and you'll have to pull the blue valve seals off to get the locator installed onto the guide then just put a little oil on it and slip it back on. with the parts above you should end up with a 1.8" or so installed height.

it should also be noted that the +.050 valve locks will require you to run a rocker arm that is non self aligning

if all goes correctly it should look like this.

Going through something similar with my 355 SBC boat engine. I'm running Isky 6105 springs which are similar to your C987's, hyd roller 224/230 .537/.511 112LSA. I've been advised by a few engine builders to shim the spring pressure up to around 150 on the seat and 350 open to take care of the problem. However I am only going to be spinning 6K rpms max. If you are planning to go higher which I assume you are with that cam then you'll probably be better off with the 918 beehive conversion.

if i was you i'd just run the 918's the pressure difference is about 15 psi on seat between them and the 915's and you'll actually get a good pressure over the nose with them with your lift vs the 915's.

as for how i like them i havent got the motor in the car yet (32 chevy roadster pro street). i'm still tweaking it on the dyno and gradually its becoming a very hard running piece.

360 sbc (.060 over 350) forged flat tops, gm steel crank, compstar rods, 4 bolt mains. ik200's beehives, super victor, 950 hp holley dp on the dyno, custom stainless headers built by me. custom cam i spec'ed 234/239 108lsa+1 .597/.605 lift 10.75 comp. so far after some tweaks and intake manifold work 522fwhp @ 6600 452fwtq @ 5200rpms.
