454 build-up for tow rig
OK, thanks to the great people of this forum I have the following information.
I want to build a 1976 454 with 781 heafds for my tow rig
What compression ratio should shoot for?
What cam ?
Keep stock exhaust manifold or get headers?
I will keep stock quadra jet carb but what about a intake manifold?
Hardened valve seats?
HELP ?
Thanks
Mick

.
RV cam, do the seats, unleaded fuel needs it. Dual plane, as said. Smaller headers, make sure you get the correct size & length. I did a Dodge a few years ago & really wish I would have injected it, just an idea, if you can afford it. Compression, highest you want to spend gas money on. More power, but more gas money. Don't go crazy on porting, gasket match and go. Good luck.

Basic 10:1 rebuild with a cam no bigger than a 230.236 duration @.050.Headers no bigger than 1 7/8 primaries.Stock intake but an aftermarket dual plane is better. The 781's will work with stock valves too.
