Trouble timing my big block

Have any of you used the Taylor 10.4mm plug wires (or another thick wire) and had trouble timing your cars?
It seems like I'm getting a lot of feedback and the timing light doesn't want to give an accurate reading....digital or standard light. It bounces around and is really sensitive when I turn the distributor. I haven't had an idea as to why it would be doing this but a buddy of mine suggested the plug wires may be screwing it up.
Will the thickness of the wires effect this? They're a spiral core wire, I don't know if that makes a difference?
It's got an MSD ignition: Pro Billet distributor, Digital 6 box, Blaster coil. Any ideas would be great.
