What does that do to your quench with these heads.. I'm assuming that the area adjacent to the valve relief is not flat...rather concave or the piston would hit. (thats why I was puzzled on the out of hole connotation) I have been setting up at about .045 quench on boat motors....

That ZZ4 I was refering to is running 0.033" quench right now. With a .038"-.040" compressed head gasket that puts you at .033"-.035" quench. The tighter the quench (within reason), the harder it is to go to detination on the gas we get out of the pump these days.

10-4 I allow a little for piston rock with age on these boat motors especially with forged pistons.....may be 10 years before a tear down. I doubt if that is a necessary precaution with hyperutetic pistons.

OK...well I won'thave to worry about that then.
I guess the last thing here is if the cam will come in soon enough for cruising at 70 with a 3:55 gear and a 0.67:1 overdrive ratio.
Do you know the power band on his cam?
Can You think of "anything" might need to be to be tweaked at all...??
Anything...

Man I hate when I peck out a long post and loose the whole thing..Dad gum it..
It's bed time so I'll sumarize..
This whole set up looks really great to me..
May be your cam man, Steve, will have something to add....It's possible that a little lower powerband might be needed since the cruising rpm will be 1600-2000 with a 0.67:1 overdrive (I think...3:55 gear and 3000 lb car)...That might effect fuel mileage, I don't know.
However that might be just fine with little less low rpm torque than the zz4 has because of the traction issues.
.... I guess you can adjust your right foot if you have too much torque...heh heh!
We have accompolished a lot. With your tips I have found a way to cure the problems with the FI intake I "really" wanted to use and you have come up with a great motor to use with it...
I don't even know your name...but I really appreciate your help. Thank you for hanging in there and helping me get to the bottom of this...it's really been worrying me a lot.
If Mr.Steve has anything to add..please let me know. Until then many, many thanks and best regards...Stan M.

I don't think that you will have any problems with this cam since your car is light. I have used much larger cams in some of my late model (93-97) LT-1's without this issue. Depending on the car they weigh between 3420-3560 lbs. while useing a 0.50 overdrive 6 speed manuel tranny.

I just got off of the phone with Tom (Steve has been busy with getting things aranged for their new building) and he agreed that the 226/234 would work great for your application. He did suggest going with their new .365" lobe instead of the .355" lobe. With the 1.6 rockers that would give you a .584" lift cam with the same duration figures. My Dynomation program is now saying 501HP @ 6000 & 496 lb-ft. TQ @ 4600. It should be a very smooth power band and carries nicely to 7000 rpm if you ever need to give her alittle nudge now and again.

Hey and howdy...Very nice to meet you Shane..
I just got in and read both your latest post.
Man that sure sounds like a hoss.......lotsa' hosses' and bu koo torque.
You said you are running a six speed...won't your first gear be much lower than the 2004R ? My car should weigh 3.000 lbs.... since that is stock weight ...and every thing should be about the same..
I'm amazed that this much cam is streetable ....I guess the roller and 1.6 rockers makes a heck of a difference over old school stuff.
Wonder what it idles at (rpm)
Are we still talking about an off the shelf Erson cam?
Tom agrees that the cam will have enough low end...with this trans ?
With the 365 lobe does the power band still begin around 2,000 rpm? Did you guys discuss cruise speeds under 2,000 ...like 1600-1700 rpm. I'm totally in the dark on how this type of configuration acts... I've never had one.
I trying to be cautious and make sure I'm not overlooking something...but I'm gettin' excited. This thing ought to smoke a LS1 or LS2 shouldn't it? (provided traction was equal).
I'm also amazed that this type engine can get any kind of fuel economy...this is for real with EFI?
Well Beckeys...calling me for super...be back in a short...
Best regards...Stan

It should idle just fine @ 800 rpm.
It is a custom grind Erson Cam.
How does 343 lb-ft. TQ @ 2000 rpm grab you?
Traction is a key ingrediant!! MT ET Street Radials will give you all the traction you need.
Well gotta go.

Well..thats amazing, 343 lbs of torque at 2000 rpm w/ a 585 lift cam. Whoo Ah! That'll work!! ......and idle at 800 rpm...Yea!
I haven't driven one of the LS motors...but hear they are spry. If horsepower is still horsepower this engine shouldn't have any problem with the LS motors should it ?
Not that that is part of the criteria...I'm just wondering.
It allmost seems too good to be true...a really driveable, quick, affordable set up. Used to be real hard to have all three... I'm almost dancing...heh heh!
This car is going to be beautiful too...really! Black on Black with silver coves and 16" Torque Thrust II's....to clear the C4 Calipers..maybe 17's, have to experiment a little there.

....one thing I haven't asked about, because its not nearly as important as all the other things we have worked out. How does a cam like this sound? Does it have a lope, rumble, or zzzzzsnort zzzzz ....heh heh??

Yeah, it will have some lumpy into the exhaust note. But it shouldn't be to bad. I would use a set of 1 3/4" primary tubes with a 28" primary length, 12" long 3" collectors, with a dual 2 1/2" x-pipe exhaust system. As far as muffler's go I am partial to the Spintech mufflers. http://www.spintechmufflers.com/spin...ntechindex.asp
