Default sbc swap

I'm not sure if this is the right place, but I'm looking to swap a gen 1 motor(sbc) into a 1998 SS. I'm wondering if there is any type of motor mounts that would work for that swap or do I have to buy a k-member to do it? Thanks in advance.

No, I recently aquired a lightened 1998 SS Camaro for racing minus engine and transmission and have a built and ready to go sbc to play with till I get the money for a 408 and wanted to know if it could be swapped in with different motor mounts or if I would have to get a totally different k-member.

umm...seriously, just get a 6.0 out of truck. At this point, you'll be able to find an LSX engine in much better shape than any sbc. They're not as expensive as you might think. The iron (LQ9) block are about 1500 bucks from a junkyard and usually include accessories, and trans.
However, if you are dead set for some reason on a gen I engine, then LT1 mounts and k-member will work. If you get them from a bone yard, it'll be between 150-200. Take them out of a 93-97 fbody and you'll be set. Seriously consider an LSX based engine swap though. I think a gen I swap would end up being alot more work for less gain and would end up costing just as much, if not more, to make the same kind of power that LS engines do. Is there a particular reason you're looking at a gen I swap?

i have a 358,377, & a 406 complete long blocks ready to go along with some lt1 headers,pg trans,convertor.etc. and it would cost way more to build an ls style engine to make the hp i need

Ok, well I'm fairly certain that LT1 k-members and motor mounts will work. You'll need both on account that the LS1 is different from both gen I and gen II sbc blocks. Again, not expensive if you pick em up from a bone yard or check www.car-part.com which searches the inventory of junkyards across the country.

What are you going to do for the carb? There isn't a lot of room under that cowl, so right away you need a really low rise manifold. I would look at some of the smog year cars where the air cleaner came down around the Quadrajet. That will give you the lowest installed height on the air cleaner, but not the greatest for performance, and still may not clear the cowl. I had considered an SBC into a 94, but the carb height issue stopped my considering in its tracks. I am sure someone has done it and can chime in on what combo will clear....

carb will fit with a little work.. there is someone on here that put a BBC in a fourth gen so i think that a SBC would be a little easier..

I have wondered about this myself and the most obvious problem that comes to my mind is where would you put the distributor? I asked my buddy that works as a tech at a chevy dealer and his response was, "how big of a hammer do you have?"

the car will 95% strip-just street driven a little. i know of several cars with carbs that fit with a little cowl work.i think a crab cap dist. will work.

I have a gen 1 small block in my 94, to get the distributor in you have to remove the cap and rotor then put it way up under the cowl and down in the hole. Plus you have to trim a **** load off the metal cowl that is under the plastic covers. In order to change disributors I have to remove the plastic cowl. If it was a track car that didnt need wipers I would cut off the passenger side wiper and the linckage and that would really help with clearance. I have a Weiand intake and my air cleaner consists of some wire mesh, thats all that will clear and just to get that I had to cut off the hood support that runs from front to back.

There arnt any motor mounts you can buy, the if you cant weld your only choice is the conversion k-member but I just moddified the LT mounts and they work fine.

And the carb isnt under the cowl at all, the only reason I am stuck with the low manifold I have is that I was set on keeping the stock hood. A cowl hood is all it would take to run what ever manifold I wanted.
