Default Belt drive distributor??

Hey guys my winter project is putting a carbed SB 408 in my 93 trans am.. the distributor has bothered me since I first thought about doing it and then i saw a pic of a guy with the distrubutor mounted on the front of the block and ran off a belt... Does anyone know where I can find this setup and get some more info on it? Thanks.

Its most likely a crank trigger setup. Not belt driven, but i can see how that would be mistaken. You would need these:

None of those place the distributor in the front of the engine. That is impossible with a sbc unless you have a belt driven distributor. The crank trigger has nothing to do with that.

Here is what you were talking about. Jesel makes them.

Now, you can use the low profile distributor and crank trigger as pictured in the first links posted, and that should fix your clearance problems. HEIs are good for regular stuff, but they tend to lose efficiency around 4500-5000rpm. I'd go with the low profile dist and crank trigger. The belt drive stuff is a little overkill for a street car.

good info... Hell I spin the lt1 in there now to 6500 and the heads/cam setup for the new motor is good to 6500 so 5000 isnt going to cut it.

if you want a budget idea, the eDIST setups work great... its a simple wasted spark coil pack design... just run a crank trigger wheel up front and you're good.

I like the mallory unilites. They are very short and you can even buy a model with a crab cap. I had to replace the optical pickup inside mine and it took 5 minutes tops.

Here is a pic of the dist. we build for the blower engines we build as we use 44AMP mags on these engines and these are belt drives inside of the housing on the front. Just above the fuel pump.

It isn't too bad considering it includes a Jesel camshaft belt drive as well and they cost $852.00 alone.
