Default Header tubes 3,5 and 2,6 glowing at idle??

A friend of mine just installed a 383 Golen long block motor in his Chevelle, and at idle the header primarys 3,5,2,6 are glowing bright red, while the other primarys remain normal.

What would cause this?

383 c.i.
AFR 195 heads
Single plane intake
Demon 750 carb
Hyd. lifters
Hooker super comp headers

Sorry thats all I know about the motor.

Coule be lean or the timing off, even both. Just a guess.

But why only the two middle tubes on both banks?

I was thinking the rockers were severely over tightened on those cylinders... someone tell me if I'm barking up the wrong tree.

I had an intake leak on my 90 Mustang back in the day that caused this same condition but I don't think that would cause this on a carb equipped car. I'd look at the rockers being too tight like you've suggested.

I'm thinking the rocker are to tight. Just hope you didn't flat lobe the cam. If you loosen the rockers and they still glow it's a good possibility. My friend just did that about 2 months ago and showed the same symptoms your talking about.

glowing header tubes means intake is sucking air. take the intake off and use that Mr. Gasket gasket maker. i had the same problem with my 327. it was because my intake wasnt sealed correctly.

if that doesnt work it is possible there could be a bent valve. i would defanatly redo the intake gaskets first before you do anything else
