Im not a fan of octane booster.

Keith Blacks are fine depending on what you would want to do, something mild to moderate in HP I think you will be ok.
Remember that you get what you pay for.

They will be fine, if it was me I would not put them in a 800hp car or anything but thats just me but something like a good street cruiser and I would not worry about it.

The KB forged pistons are made of a 2618 alloy the same as JE, Ross, Weisco, & Probe. Now then, there are different sources of the bar stock used while making the forgings, but you should be easily able to handle 800+ HP. The Hyper's get a bad rap due too running to loose of piston to cylinder wall clearances b/c they think that .0015"-.002" is to tight.

How much are you wanting to spray?

Everyone has their opinions on whats good or not

Most forged pistons will be fine for most applications.

You will be fine even on a 225 shot with the KB Forged pistons.

Every piston has pro's and cons or there would only be cheap pistons.

Everyone has their favorites

I like J&E's myself and hear good things about Ross.. Have TRW's in my old motor that took a 300 shot.... just depends on what you want.

Don't get me wrong, I prefer different brands of piston's depending on what the intended use is. The KB's are a good piston for the more budget minded builds out there.

I apologize for not reading all the responses, but that damage is apparently due to insufficient end gap on the rings.

If your engine is naturally aspirated the pistons aren't as critical (forged isn't required). But checking end gap on the rings is imperative on any custom engine. All high-end rings provide recommended gap in the instructions and I've never been steered wrong following the instructions.

Sweet, i am running a scat 9000 cast crank but i think itl be fine. The rods are scat I beams for 700 HP.

What do you guys think about the 40$ chromolly speed pro rings? Think they'll be fine? I was going to buy them and gap them acording. I have read the directions from KB that came in the box but are the speed pro rings setup to be gapped? I might even go with the plasma molly speed pros rings since they are double the price and everyone else seems to use plasma, any input for that?

I would use the plasma moly file fit rings.

With the KB's you have to follow the gap guidelines for the pistons, not the rings. The ring manufacturer guidelines are for "normal" pistons and the KB's don't behave that way. You need more gap or you'll crack them as shown in the beginning of this thread. But you are correct overall.

That's exactly what I'm using with the KB's in my engine. They've been fine so far (even survived 30 minute sessions on the road course at Nashville Superspeedway).

in that rpm range the advance springs really shouldnt matter for your power band, it will be fully advanced befor 4000 with any typical springs, i would put the heaviest spring in to bring on timing slower to help with the detonation problem. just curious how much timing did you have in it befor........
