Does L98 TPI has knock sensor?

Default Does L98 TPI has knock sensor?

I was searching for videos of timing gear on SBC I came into a video of ford mustang with timing gear and I read the comments they were talking about timing gear in fuel injection cars wont work because of the knock sensor I orderd a set of timing gear for my 92 L98 350ci Camaro and Im worried about this

Yes it does...should be mounted in the engine block just in front of your starter, you may be able to have the knock sensor tuned out but I dont knoe if you can do it on the older cars and in all hosesty im not sure it would be worth the hassle.

Is the fuel system gonna be crazy on me when I install the timing gear? I will convert to carb soon after I install Hedman headers LT,March pulleys,Jegs cooler gear,Jegs timing gear and 3.73 after a while I will convert to carb after my friend finish porting the vortec heads

Im not sure if the car will even start or if it will only cause a problem at high rpms. Like I said I would either go carb now or send the gear back or sell it and buy a chain set and not have to worry about anything. Its going to cause problems...just have to figure out what you want to do.

In my opinion if you are looking for good power go carb soon. If you want drivability stay FI. I myself built a 350 TPI for my 86 IROC when I had it, vortec heads, 24lb injectors, raised compression...the works and it was a disapointment for as much as I had into it. Had I put that into a carbed motor I would have made alot more power. I ended up selling the car and buying an 88 IROC 5.7 and that was actually a better all around car.

I guess I wont install the timing gear till I convert it to carb thanks for your help

If you change your mind and decide to stay EFI, I have a NIB Vortec TPI base manifold. FYI - my old 86' IROC w/ an 87' L98 long block, full bolt ons and a small cam ran 13.00's consistently. It was cheap fun and got over 20 MPG. My 91' is a lighter car and has more of a drag race - friendly susp. My times with it are in my sig. It is a high mile car w/ hardly any mods.

how much are you asking for the base manifold? I really wish to convert to carb and I hope do

I'm trying to understand the post. Are you wanting to run a gear drive on a TPI car? Why don't you just run a standard timing chain?? A gear drive requires more HP to turn than a standard timing chain. Unless you're going to be turning some serious RPM 6500+ a quality timing chain will work just fine.
