Default 450hp 350 w/ nitrous??

i'm looking to build a pump gas 450hp 350 4 bolt main motor. i would like to have 450hp with out nitrous and be able to bolt on a cheater system and put maybe a 150 shot of spray on it from time to time. this is also on a pretty good budget. could someone tell me what heads i can use without doing a lot of porting. and a cam/there's going to be a manual tranny behind it so it can be pretty lumpy. and what pistons to use. are stock crank and rods alright or not if not what should i use. i am guessing use a victor jr. or a victor intake manifold with a 750 or 850 double pumper. What's a cheap alternative to the msd pro billet dissy that i can hook to a 6al box?

sorry for all the questions i'm used to building ford FEs not sbcs but it's for a friend

First off, "pretty good budget" doesn't tell us much.
At the power level you're looking at on the spray, you'll want a good forged crank, rods and pistons. Since you should be replacing the crank anyway, there's no reason not to build a 383 since a stroker crank is the same price. Scat & Eagle make great budget-minded forged rotating assemblies. Get a decent set of 180-200cc heads (shoot for ~10:1 compression), a cam in the 230-240 duration range. Intake will depend on usage--if it's mostly street use a rpm air-gap, mostly track then a vic jr. Carb choice looks about right.

Really, forged piston, rods, and crank for 600whp?? Or is it the torque its gonna make that will start breakin parts?

My dad has a 355 in his first gen.

Roller cam (engine revs to 8,000 rpm no problem)
Ported to hell gm bowtie heads
Edelbrock victor intake manifold
850 double pumper carb
Super comp headers
Forged crank
Carillo forged rods
Arias forged pistons
150 shot of the giggle juice
Turbo 400 with 3500 stall
12 bolt posi with 4.56 gears

He has never dynoed it but we think it makes around 440-450whp on motor and 590-600whp on the jug.
Sure feels this fast. Will murder my car no problem all day everyday.
That is if it gets traction. Fuggin thing spins the tires at 50mph.

The best bet is to find a magazine article/ some one else that has built a similar motor and read up on it. That way you know what expect for Cost as well as performance.
