I don't think anyone would trade to live up here!
I think every big city area has bums. Everytime I go into the city all the crazies come out of the wood work. I must look like an easy target or something.
I don't want to be to close to a city anymore. Too many people in a small area just isnt a healthy way to live if you ask me. It breeds hostility...

Back from the dead! So me and my wife made the trip down last february and we loved it. We talked to a relocation specialist and looked around Charlotte, Mooresville, Statesville, Huntersville etc. Our next trip down will be the first week in august. Its kind of a vacation/research trip. My wife and I will be looking at potential job opportunities while we are there. I know the timing seems pretty bad due to the bad economy but I would like to make some good contacts.
I have been a mechanic for over 10 years. I have 4+ years at BMW, the rest at an independent shop. If anyone has a contact at a BMW dealership or reputable ind shop I would appreciate it. Thanks for all the help you guys have given me already. We can't wait to get down there and start a new life!

Good luck man. The Huntersville, Cornelius, Lake Norman area is an awesome area to live in. There's all kinda of dealerships in the area and also Charlotte is on a 15-20 mins drive from here. I'll keep my ears and eyes open for ya man.

Thanks fastmatt98, I appreciate your help. I think I am going to check out the Hyundai dealership while I am there. I never thought I would be working for Hyundai but I hear if you are a good tech you can make great money. They can't be any harder to fix then BMW's!

Don't rule out the Mount Holly/Belmont area!

I'd recommend staying out of Mecklenburg County (which includes Charlotte and Huntersville). Taxes are way high there. Look at Cabarrus Co.; Concord, Harrisburg, Kannapolis. Property taxes are way less, that's why we bought our house in Harrisburg. It is a great area and we love it. Our next-door neighbor's house will be on the market soon

I live in CT so my taxes are insane. I think I pay over $3500 a year for my condo and its a little less then 1000 sq ft! ANY taxes down there seem like a gift to me
