Stolen! (Updated)
^^^You must plan on sleeping in your car because the people that do this have moved cars out of driveways to get to the car they want without making a sound, now a garage is a different story..sorry for your loss but welcome to the club
There really is no way of preventing it. I was well aware of the trend around here, and was paranoid enough to cover up my VIN and park perpendicular in the drive way, but the one night I didn't do it, they took it. If they really want it, it's theirs. I would've absolutely shot them if I was awake and witnessed the crime, but I unfortunately was not.
I'm probably about to start parking the car in the backyard, especially considering that I'm gonna start putting some money into it soon. I'd like to see them get it through a 6 foot privacy fence with a hellacious lock, and a pissed off 55 lb Chow-Malinois mix, and that's before I wake up and grab the M4.
98 trans am I moved to Montgomery, Al in June and not even a week in to living in Montgomery the car was stolen on a Sunday at 1pm( in day light!!). The car Had ls6 heads,si5 cam, fast 90 and just about every supporting mod you can think of. It was a gold trans am with a black hood and they didn't even come close to finding it. a few weeks after that my gsxr was stolen also and now I am trying to figure out a way to keep my new trans am from being stolen.

Keep it in a garage. About the only thing you can do... I've heard of three bikes stolen in the past 2 months. They're the reason I haven't bought another F-Body yet.

Not to steal your thread (no pun intended), but I moved to montgomery a little over a year ago, and I am renting a house from an old highschool friend of mine. We are still great friends and he asked if he could leave his brother's old chevy truck at the house (his brother passed away a few years ago so its the only reason he kept it). We usually leave the truck in the back of the house, but he had used it for a few days and parked it out on the street, big mistake. About 2 weeks ago he called me on a saturday morning, told me he was coming over to get the truck to go do some work, he knocked on my door and asked me what i did with the truck....unfortunately he knew i didnt use it because the keys were still hanging by the door. Apparently either late friday night, or early sat morning, some jackasses either hotwired it (i never heard anything) or just hooked it up and drove off. We dont even live in a bad area, but essentially, if you live in montgomery, in any area, you are at risk for this crap. He reported it, just because its the thing to do, knowing good and well it was gone. Bad thing is he had just had a new transmission and 4 new tires put on it, so that was a quick 2k down the drain, plus the value of the truck. Like you, he only had liab too.
I hate to hear that. Yeah any part of Montgomery is vulnerable, including outskirts. A friend of mine had his stolen from Marbury of all places (that's a 10 minute drive north on I65), and his was the first one they found. No surprise they found it off the Fairview exit on the west side... Lucky bastard got his whole car back minus interior, PLUS insurance money LOL.

here's an option...cut a one foot square out of your driveway, bout 3 or 4 feet deep, fill with rebar and a huge chain, fill with cement.
wrap chain around the axle and lock with a monster padlock...maybe that will atleast slow them down so we can wake up and grab a gun....just an idea
