Let me begin by saying.....
As most know, I do most my own mod installs w/the exception dipstick intalls
I've had more dipsticks/tubes in and out of motors all my life..... never managed to break one off in a motor. Don't know how I managed all those w/out help
I will say I've never used the below method as explained below. Here's exactly what I believe happened.
My buddy Josh came over(in his nice clothes mind you)at about 8:30 pm to see how far the motor swap had progressed. I had at that point been working on the car ~ 12-13 hours and was ready to call it a night.
Josh decided that since it was so close to being ready to fire, that he'd give me the ol' Boy Scout push and talked me into finishing it that night.... he would give me a hand.
Fair enough.... though I wasn't really interested(as Josh should recall),as it still needed coil packs/plugs/wires/oil/filter/coolent, which I had planned on doing the next morning.
Indeed, he helped get it ready to the point that the dip stick tube was all that was left. After I tried a few times to fish the tube through the header tubes and past the starter(Josh was underneath the car), Josh said "hey man.... put the dipstick in the tube and the stick will guide the tube into place.... I've done it a hundred times" or something very similar to that. I said "nah... I've done this a dozen times and have never done it that way"..... or something to that effect.
He came up and placed the stick in the tube, and I went below to guide it in. Easy. Right? Right.
Sure enough... here comes Mr. dipstick. I guide it to the hole. Told Josh.... "there, yer in" and he proceeded to push it in. *EDIT*: As far as putting it in "SIDEWAYS"... I had no control as it was in the phucking tube, not to mention, orientation was a little scewed from my vantage point. There WAS a STARTER/ LONGTUBES in my line of vision...although... the tip of the stick had a clear shot into the pan hole. A moment went by when Josh said... "uhhh, it's stuck".
"Whutcha' mean stuck?" I believe he said it wouldn't seat all the way, and wouldn't pull back out. I knew right then that somehow, the stick was in a bind and probably bent. He went to remove the stick and it broke right at the fill mark leaving that portion in the pan.Now... I know from time to time when re-installing a dipstick, sometimes it won't go all the way in, at which point ya pull it back out and either try again or flip the stick. But this ain't one of those "if it don't fit... force it" kinda' things.
I think the stick was in the tube sideways, or off 180* when I guided it into the hole. As he pushed it in, the tip contacted the inside edge/lip in the block and binded up. As the stick was pushed further in, it doubled over making it difficult to pull back out. When he pulled it back out, it snapped.
Josh hung out for another 45 minutes or so trying to locate/get at the broken tip before getting out from underneath the car and advising me "that sucks for you dude", and left.
I've never "BLAMED" Josh for the mishap, although I have and will continue to rib him about it on occasion. It was as I had stated at that time, a freak accident. **** happens.
In the end.... I spent the next 8 hours fishing that little sonofabitch outa' the pan.... closed her back up.... and life went on to the tune of 436/416... &... 11.57@122. No problem. Another lesson learned.
Josh..... if any of this is grossly inaccurate, please feel free to add your editorial, as this is only my recollection of the events.
As far as this thread goes.... it was meant to get a rise out of you. Nothing more. Nothing less. It achieved it's goal. Lighten up. Change yer thong... and get some meds. You take ALL this **** WAY too seriously

It only gets a rise out of me for a minute. The next day I do not care.
