If your still looking around ill throw in my 2 pennies.
Im from alpharetta. Its a very nice area, in fact i believe its in the guiness book for top 5 richest areas in the nation after silicon valley and beverly hills. Some beautiful homes. Traffic sucks horribly. Back when I was in high school, it would take close to an hour just to drive 2 miles to school in the morning. Theres tons of growth. Almost every shop you can think of. In fulton, theres very little crime. Very nice homes can be found in the 150 to 250s. Theres ton of northerners and the area is rather diverse. Weather stays nice usually with a some rain off and on. Ive been here for over 11 years and really loved it.
Im in savannah now ive enrolled back in school. Ive only been here for a few months but ill tell you a few things. The track is relatively close. The beach is close as well (only 10 min away from me). I live in the historic downtown district. Its nice, VERY humid, beautiful historic architecture in these homes. Crime is pretty bad though. You cant walk alone at night in certain areas. theres good ones one block and then run down properties in the next so its sort of strange. Overall, its a nice little city. The people are nice and the traffic is nowhere near as bad as north atlanta. Homes can be pricey though so watch out. Im about to purchase a 4 room for roughly 200K and the same home back in alpharetta would have been massive compared to this one for the same price.
Good luck to you and your family. Just PM me if you have any questions.

^ Thanks
Will do. Hmmm, I am trying to get away from traffic and humidity though. Had enough of it down here
Looks like I'm heading more towards the boonies perhaps.
