It will be a experience that will be with you the rest of your life..you will learn some life lessons too..I was in 66-67-68..spent 19 months in Vietnam..if you become a machine gunner you will have to become a master of the three to five round burst..otherwise you will draw more return fire than you can imigine.. ..good luck to you sir...grunts rule!!..

I wish you the best of luck man. I come from a military family... so I know how much it teaches just based on what I've seen from my relatives. Once again, best of luck and keep safe.

I got no problems with USMC but...i knew i bunch when i was enlisted and their quality of life and treatment is way below others (maybe not the Army) and some other issues i will not get into, but hey if you think your USMC material, go for it man, have fun and kick *** also ask the questions that the gentleman is offering to answer, helps alot

The Marines is not the best branch to join if you are going for school. You should try the Air Force. The ones who join for school usually end up in front of me as a deserter when they realize they are going to Iraq.

The Air Force is the best branch for academics. An ex-GF's son went ito the Marines , boot camp is beyond hell from what I've been told by him and the training videos they sent his mom.

The best part about a Marine, is becoming one. That is a title only God can take from you after you earn it. From what I have heard Boot Camp has change alot. Go with a clear head and focus on the job at hand. I was aso in 81-88 Combat Arms.
Good luck, it's all what you make of it.

To be the baddest and the best...USMC boot camp and training isn't going to be any kind of sunday school picnic...if you want to go into the air force just to get your GI Bill education go for it... but to be a United States Marine it takes a little bit of guts and intestinal fortitude..you can end up in combat and have to put your life on the line..not everyones cup of tea..but one thing you will be able to depend on is the Marine next to ya..good luck on what ever you decide to do..

Have you even talked to a recruiter yet or are you just dreaming right now??

As said above, the AF is the academics military. If you're wanting to go out and learn how to destroy anything in site, the Marines are for you. If you're wanting to go in and get an education, you need to think about the AF because the only thing you'll be putting on a resume from the Marines is how many towel heads you killed in combat....

FWIW, my buddy just got out of the Army after 3 years service. He served 4 tours over in Afghani and Iraq. He killed for our country for 3 years, including saving the lifes of 3 higher ranked officers in a highly dangerous situation......He cannot find a good paying job to save his life. About the only thing he walked away with after leaving the grunts is bad memories and a ton of money in his bank account.

When do you leave for BMT? 12 weeks of fun! Be safe and just do what they yell at you to do and things will be fine.

Good choice, the Marines are badass. If you make it through training you'll be tough as nails.
