factory lt1 heads can flow up to 280 or so with enough porting.
For more, go with some trickflow castings.
yeah you can convert SBC heads but that is $$$ and more than most people need.

also, i would think some of the water jackets dont match up on the standard sbc type head, with an lt1 block. but, with flow #s as good as some of the lt1 s , theirs no need. joe overtons lt1 t/a runs the afr 227 lt1 style heads and it runs 9.3s@ 141 all motor! good enough for high 5s in the 8th. thats with a 385 inch lt1 and it weighed in around 3100 lbs. when it was at bowling green a couple yrs. back.
This thread made me think, I'm planning a 383 stroker build for my LT1, I was planning to port my LT1 heads, but should I go with different heads? I'm looking for around 400-450rwhp and eventually way down the road spray the motor.
