Thumbs down Tranny went bye-bye

The inevitable happened. I went for a drive this evening and didn't really even open it up....just a spirited sprint and that was all. The tranny started having some funny vibrations as I was pulling through the front gate. By the time I got to the Shopette, 1st was gone. It starts is 2nd and will go into 3rd, but if I manually pull it back to 2nd, it moans and shudders bad. Putting the selector in 1st results in absolutely nothing but free revs.

This sucks. My funds went to the cam....so my car gets to sit for a while until I decide what I am going to do. Minimum $1000 for a new tranny and $250 for a converter clean. Maybe it's time to spring for the FLT and never look back. I know I only paid $500 dollars for this rebuild....it was a bandaid to get me through another year or so. But I thought it would have taken a little more abuse than I ever gave it. Only went to the track twice with it and never got over 210*. Pretty lame if you ask me, but what did I expect.

Moral of the story: You get what you pay for. I should have known when I bought it.....actually, I think I did. I'm not at all surprised that it gave up the ghost. So no new track times for '07.

I was goin to say that..

I have been debating doing that as well..Auto is consistant on the Track, but a M6 with my setup would be killer on highway races..

210 was the hottest it ever saw. Typical temps were around 150-165.

So I can be slower?

Actually, my first LS1 was a 6-speed and I loved it.....but after the cam install, I'm sold on autos. I gave the 6-speed swap a lot of thought, but when it came down to it, I just couldn't do it. A4's will never be king on the highway, but I really enjoy them. When traction is available, digs and slow rolls are . My long-term goals are drag oriented, and so long as it is streetable, I'll be happy. If I had 3.73's right now I'd be super tempted to swap in a PT4400 converter. As it is, I'll keep the SS4000 and get a good tranny.

Motivation for me is hearing the "too bad it's an auto" comment. A couple people have said that and been schooled after a quick ride around the block. It all comes down to personal preference, and the A4 does it for me. If I ever buy another F-body, it'll proly be a 6-speed, but only if I keep the Hawk.

Like I said, the A4 will never rule the highway, but here's a little piece showing the A4's where they shine. That's what I'm talking about!

My favorite is the Black SS against the Z06 from a dig.....and then the same two cars from a roll. Shows both trannies at their best!

Those Videos Rocked!
Reminds me of the old days.

Sorry to hear about losing the tranny. My TA sat for over a year before I could get the $$$$ up to have it rebuilt. Hope yours won't be that long.

It won't be a year, but it might be a few months. Oh well, I didn't drive it much anyway.

^^^That was with Nittos. I never got the chance to put the Nittos back on since I got the cam in. Anything below 40 before and after the cam was pointless on street tires. I was able to hook from a 5 MPH roll once or twice with the Nittos and I must say that is a wonderful feeling.

Great new.....looks like I'll have a new transmission going in next week or so. I also have to send in my converter, so that'll take some time. Goal is to be running again week after next. Perhaps in time for Memphis on the 18th .

I'll be using Caleb.....I've heard great reviews about him and his tranny.
