Stumbled across this article in my files, I've talked about these 2 rare Formulas before over the years here, but forgot I ever snagged this article when it was published. I figure I should share it before I forget about it again!
(Sorry about the .PDF conversion errors / text overlaps).

Is that a 1LE? As I know, they only came with a non-powered fixed antenna.

Man... it is not actually... However. It has no courtesy lights ( mirror/footwells) only the dome light in back... No TCS... Obviously a hard top... cloth, and the fixed antenna.. I wish it were a 1LE... I have recently added the Strano front/rear sways.. I am about to add the Stranot lowering springs, Koni yellow adj, UMI LCA's, Relo brackets, adj phr... She'll feel like a 1LE after these...

No map lights in the mirror? I didn't even know that there was a mirror offered that didn't include a map light. I've only ever seen two mirror styles offered in the LS1 4th gens; the older version that was used until 2000, and the 2001+ updated style, but both had two map lights.

Can you get a picture of this mirror? I'd love to see it as I've never encountered this. But I do wonder if it might have been swapped out at some point, for some reason.

Thanks for the image, I haven't seen that before.

Do you know the option group RPO for this car (is the SPID intact)? Is this a "stripper" car of some sort (no power accessories, etc.)? Just trying to figure out if this is original or if someone swapped in another mirror for some reason.

I
I wouldn't call it a stripper car... Although, hard top, cloth, no courtesy lights in footwell, none on mirror. I does have PW,PDL,defrost,AC, tilt,cruise... Windshield "could" have been replaced at some point... But there is no power cord for mirror coming from headliner... I know, crazy...

Your option group RPO is "1SA" as shown above. This was the "standard equipment" option group which included the following:

- Lights: Daytime Running, Glove Box, & Reading

So the "reading" lights are located in the mirror, and based on your 1SA RPO, this car should have come with them. There is no specific RPO for the mirror that would allow for adding/deleting this feature as a stand-alone option. Also, FWIW, have never seen a 4th gen with "footwell" lights (just the mirror and the one up near the hatch), none of my four had this (even though two of them were highly optioned cars).
