I remember seeing pics of this car years ago when it came up for sale one time. It looked legit. Wishing now I would've snagged the pics 'cause I can't seem to find them now. Some other boards discussing this car mention that it was possibly built for a GM exec. ![Icon Confused](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies2/icon_confused.gif)

Here are some pictures of the car. It was unfortunately modified, but only with bolt ons. These pics are from 2006. I don't know who currently owns the car. Hopefully they returned it to stock. I'd like the VIN # if anybody can get it...

I can't verify this as it's something I heard from another person, but there was also supposed to be one other unusual early production '98 built. It was purple, had a white convertible top, supposedly a light gray leather interior that didn't end up going to production, and was sent to Japan. I think it was the 26th pilot car, but I would have to research that to verify it.
I don't know if this is the car or not, but these pictures were taken of this car at a Yokohama event in Japan (the photo was also tagged Fakutorikuruzu... whatever that is...) at an event to celebrate the 2010 Camaro debut. The exhaust is weird, the car has plastic on the seats, it doesn't have Japanese export mirrors, and I can only assume the car is extremely rarely driven. I would think this would be that car...

The sticker on the back is the name of the company that handles the majority of US cars coming into Japan.

Here's what I heard about the car. The car was a pilot car, being built very early in May of 1997 as the 36th '98 Camaro made. Those first 36 or so cars were made before GM came up with rules as to what could and could not be had on a '98, and many were used for testing and were later destroyed.
Here are some pictures of the car. It was unfortunately modified, but only with bolt ons. These pics are from 2006. I don't know who currently owns the car. Hopefully they returned it to stock. I'd like the VIN # if anybody can get it...

That car looks to be a Z28, possibly w/ a SOTL from an SS (w/ a non-stock tip). According to CompNine's database there were only 18 BPM (88U) Z28 'verts built in '98, 2 M6 and 16 A4. It also shows another 1-off color on a '98 SS coupe M6 in Cyaenne Red Metallic (96U). Seems this car would be tied w/ the MTM SS 'vert for rarest color on a SS.
I've seen another Z28 in Japan with that unusual SOTL exhaust with equally unusual tip, so it might have been an option in Japan. But... I don't think that purple one is a Japanese export Camaro... it lacks the foldable mirrors and most notably, the extra side marker lights. I think it's an American Camaro that just ended up in Japan.

'98 purple WS6 the rarest WS6 I believe. I've seen two of them over the years. SGM WS6 is rather rare, I've seen two of those over the last 13 years too. But some of the Formula WS6's would be rare too.
That green SS vert pilot car was for sale 2-3 years ago, I had some interest but the car had been repainted by last owner which bugged me.

I've got some production info on specific colors for the 98-02 WS6 cars. I'll update this post with the info in a few hours. I'll put it in bold beside the info in the quote
Just a quick FWIW: 2390 built in Collector Yellow for 2002
